What are the common faults of the protection board for lithium battery packs?

2026-01-30 17:01:30

Maintenance methods and common faults of lithium battery protection boards. The degree of damage to the lithium battery protection board depends on the extent of the damage and the value of repair. The lithium battery protection board, as the name suggests, is used to protect the lithium battery. Its function is to prevent over-discharge, over-charging, over-current of the battery, and also to protect against output short circuits. How to repair when the lithium battery protection board is damag?

If the protection board of the lithium battery is damaged, you can try charging it with a charger to see if it can be activated. If you can't fill it up, it must be broken. It could be that the electronic components are damaged, or it might have just been reset! However, if the protection board is damaged, the measurement value should be 0V. If you have touched the energy storage system lithium battery protection board, then let's discuss why the lithium battery protection board lacks charge and discharge protection. I hope this can provide you with some useful help.

Under what circumstances will the lifepo4 lithium battery protection board fail to provide charging and discharging protection?
Let's first look at the ternary parameters: lithium and iron have voltages ranging from 2.8 to 4.25 and 2.5 to 3.65 respectively.
It could be overcharging, over-discharging, overcurrent, short circuiting, or overheating.
2. Use a multimeter to check if the charging and discharging MOS transistor is open circuit.
3. If the lithium battery protection board is equipped with an LED, when the battery cannot be charged or discharged, the LED will flash for 0.5 seconds as an alarm.
4. If the lithium battery protection board is equipped with an upper computer, it can be connected to the upper computer to view the protection status.
5. The lithium battery protection board is equipped with a weak point switch. Please check if the weak point switch is open.
In these cases, you can try the following methods to fix the issue:
1. For overcharging, overdischarging, overcurrent, and short circuit, insert the charger for recovery.
2. For overcurrent, disconnect the load and restore.
What is a lithium battery protection board?

The lithium battery protection board is responsible for the charging and discharging protection of a series of lithium battery packs. After being fully charged, it can ensure that the voltage difference between individual battery cells is less than the set value, allowing all the single cells in the battery pack to charge uniformly, effectively improving the charging effect in the series charging mode. At the same time, it detects the overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, short circuit and overheating conditions of each single cell in the battery pack to protect and extend the battery's service life; the undervoltage protection prevents each single cell from being damaged due to excessive discharge during the discharge process.

The protection functions of lithium batteries are usually accomplished through the cooperation of protection circuit boards and current devices such as PTC. The protection board is composed of electronic circuits and can accurately monitor the cell voltage and charging/discharging circuit current in an environment ranging from -40 to 85 degrees Celsius, and promptly control the opening and closing of the current circuit. PTC can prevent the battery from being severely damaged in high-temperature environments.

Common lithium energy storage battery protection boards usually consist of control ICs, MOS switches, resistors, capacitors, auxiliary device fuses, PTCs, NTCs, IDs, memories, etc. Among them, the control IC controls the MOS switch to conduct under all normal conditions, connecting the battery cell to the external circuit. When the voltage of the battery cell or the current in the circuit exceeds the specified value, it immediately controls the MOS switch to turn off, protecting the safety of the battery cell.
Principle of lithium battery protection board:

The reason why lithium batteries (rechargeable) need protection is determined by their own characteristics. Due to the material of lithium batteries, they cannot be overcharged, over-discharged, overcurrented, short-circuited, or subjected to ultra-high temperature charging and discharging. Therefore, the lithium battery components always have a delicate protection board and an amperage fuse.
